It’s cool how you can teach people over the internet instead of just teaching kids at school. Keep up the good work! :) And I love your smile!

did you really throw in there raw flour??

  25. CrowleyX35
    November 4th, 2011 at 20:33 | #25

Its not a splash cover…its a sifter. A better thickener is Cornstarch and water (also known as a “Slurry”). You’re gravy is not good tasting, and I can tell because you didn’t add any good flavour to it. You want PERFECT gravy, sweat a mirepoix and some herbs in a pan, add your drippings, simmer shortley, THEN strain and mix in your thickener (the slurry).

If you are going to use flour, make a proper roux, more flavour, no lumps.

The best gravy: melt a couple of tablespoons of butter, stir inn a couple of tablespoons of flour until it’s a light paste. Add your drippings from whatever meat you’re cooking and let it come to a boil. Reduce it and add cream until it’s as thick as you want it, and then Norwegian brown, sweet goat’s cheese. May sound weird, but it’s heaven! Everybody says it’s the best gravy they ever tasted! Try it sometime!

@StonedBoo yes. Use vegetable stock from the store. That is what vegetarians use. It should come out great.

instead of turkey juice is there a way to make gravy without meat

    November 4th, 2011 at 23:45 | #31

Jack, you never successfully made gravy before? Well here is an easy way to make extra gravy or gravy when you haven’t made a roast (no drippings). The ratio is 6:6:3. Six tablespoons each of butter and flour and 3 cups of good stock (chicken, turkey, beef). Melt the butter in a saucepan, put in the flour and cook – make a roux. Don’t cook too much – but get out the flour flavor. Add the stock and whisk until thick. Season to taste.

Uhm…uncooked flour? With no follow-up cooking after you mixed it all together? Nope, gonna pass on this one, honey. Sorry. Normally your stuff is great, I gotta say, but the uncooked flour puts me off. Thank heaven I’m the gravy maker in the family. Even my late MIL would drag me into the kitchen on the holidays, when she wouldn’t let me set foot there, so that I could make the gravy. I miss that dear angel.
