Is the iPhone app “voice actions” and Siri the same thing?
Question by Nikhil: Is the iPhone app “voice actions” and Siri the same thing?
iPhone has this app called voice actions. It has got a lot of bad and good reviews and it was pretty unique until siri came out. I am an apple fanboy but a lot of people say that I rather get an iphone 4 with ios5 and voice actions and save money. My question, What are the advantages siri has that voice action doesnt.

to an extent yes, they are both voice software that let’s you use the device hands free but the main differences is that SIRI is more refined in the way it searches for things voice actions you can search for example Italian restaurants in your area and it would tell you what there was with SIRI apparently you can give it a distance and a basic price limit and it can narrow it down for you, also SIRI learns from use, the more you use the more it will intract with you and become more like an assistant then just an app you use when you want hands free, SIRI also can reschedule meetings contact people for you given your command and read messages and email while the app voice actions can only send email and texts not read them aloud

Voice actions is really just voice command. For instance, you can use it start a particular song up by saying like “Listen to —-”. Then it can also be used to call people. “Call —-”. It just allows you to control parts of the iPhone through voice.
Siri is more of an upgraded version. It’s more than just a voice command tool. It’s now also a voice assistant. It now supports dictation so you can say your messages (similar to Android phones). Another few changes done is that the iPhone can understand you. If you want it to remind you of something, just say something like, “Remind me to take —– to —— at 4 PM”. Siri will then respond (yes it can respond), “Okay, I will remind you at 4 PM”. Or you can ask, “Do I need an Umbrella today?” and it will respond, “Sure looks like it’s gonna rain”.
That’s what Siri is like. Although, these voice control things aren’t as important (as some people have pointed out). I have a Samsung Galaxy S II which offers some similar features (though not as cool and fancy), but I hardly use it. So I kinda agree that you may as well just get an iPhone 4 and use voice actions. It’s not like you’re gonna ask if you need an Umbrella to your phone (just simply check the weather app).
