Award-Winning Director Blake Calhoun (“Pink: The Series”) Launches New Web Series, “88 Hits,” On KoldCast TV Today
Los Angeles, CA (Vocus) May 5, 2009
On the heels of being named Best Director in a Dramatic Web Series for “PINK: The Series” (nearly 6 million views to-date) at the recent 1st Annual Streamy Awards Ceremony in Los Angeles, writer/producer/director Blake Calhoun is launching his new MOBumentary, “88 Hits,” on KoldCast TV today.
“88 Hits” is a 25-plus episode web series that follows the once proud Pascadelli crime family, now the most unorganized family in the organized crime world. Uncle Paulie runs Pascadelli Industries, a garbage collection and construction business. With gas prices shooting through the roof and a lot of trucks to fill, times are tough and getting tougher. The family is going broke. As Uncle Paulie’s nephew Tommy Pascadelli puts it, “My family is looking for new ways to make ends meet, so we did this TV show thing. It’s called “88 Hits.” I think you can see it on a couple of websites besides the KoldCast TV Network, but honestly, I’m not sure how that shit works. Sorry that I cussed, but it’s all magic and fairy dust to me.”
The series is based on the Indie feature film “HIT” produced and directed by Calhoun. What the classic mockumentary “This is Spinal Tap” did for rock stars, “88 Hits” does for the mob, says Calhoun. Each week this “mobumentary” takes a hilarious look at the genesis of the family’s troubles as it journeys deep into the belly of the dysfunctional Pascadelli underworld. Current and former members of the improv comedy troupe Four Day Weekend, who studied at the famed Second City in Chicago, take on the roles of the now not-so-notorious Pascadellis.

“88 Hits” is vintage Calhoun,” says KoldCast TV CEO, David S. Samuels. “Blake is a skillful storyteller with a passion for narrative filmmaking. Whether he’s writing a screenplay or producing a web series, Blake brings an unparalleled level of passion and commitment to the job. With nearly 6 million views of ‘Pink’ behind him, a Streamy Awards win for Best Director, and two Webby Honors for the series, we are entirely confident that his new series will be a hit with our viewers.”
Calhoun said his production company, Loud Pictures, chose the KoldCast TV Network as his primary launch platform due to its success distributing “Pink.” “KoldCast is unlike any other distributor I have worked with. They have a very unique and personal approach to business and provide significant value-added services, which include marketing and promotional assistance, which is otherwise difficult, if not impossible, to find among the crowded field of video aggregators. KoldCast isn’t an aggregator; they’re a genuine Network. Combine these facts with a Network site that has a great UI, guaranteed discoverability for my show and a killer Media Player and you’ve got the kind of partner that all producers should aspire to be working with,” said Calhoun.

About Loud Pictures
Loud Pictures is a Texas-based production company formed in 1997 by entrepreneur and filmmaker Blake Calhoun to focus on feature film and television production. The first feature film produced under this banner was the micro-budgeted 16mm movie “Thugs”. Since “Thugs”, Blake has produced and directed two more feature films – a mockumentary called “Hit”, and an action-thriller called “Killing Down,” which now has wide distribution on both DVD and television. “Hit” is the basis for the new web series “88 Hits” and is also being developed as a traditional TV pilot. The company’s next major project, “Exposed,” is executive produced by Hollywood’s “rogue mogul,” McG (he’s directing the new “Terminator Salvation” movie, too.), which is being produced for The WB.com for release later this year.
